Silver Birch


Botanical name: Betula pendula

Common names: Silver birch


  • Mature tree can reach 30m high with drooping branches.
  • White bark sheds layers like tissue paper.
  • Leaves: light green, small triangular with toothed edge. Yellow in autumn
  • Flowers: Female and male flowers in same tree from April to May. Male catkins are long and yellow-brown and hang in groups. Female catkins are smaller, short and bright green.
